Participation in this workshop is by invitation.

The workshop will be held at the Westin Arlington Gateway hotel near the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Virginia. Hotel rooms must be booked by May 11, 2012.

A block of rooms has been reserved for attendees on May 30 and May 31. The room rate is $224 per night plus tax. To reserve a room at this rate, you must follow the instructions provided in the participation acknowledgement e-mail. Additionally, if you qualify for travel reimbursement, you must reserve a room by May 11 at the workshop rate using this procedure.

Public Transit Directions from Local Airports

The Washington Flyer Coach Service and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority offer low-cost alternatives for transportation into Arlington from the local airports via Ballston–MU Station, just blocks from the Westin Arlington Gateway:

From Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Ballston–MU Station

  • Option 1
    • From the terminal, catch the Washington Flyer Coach Service, departing every 30 minutes, to West Falls Church–VT/UVA Metro Station. Cash fare for coach is $10.00.
    • At West Falls Church–VT/UVA Metro Station, catch the Orange Line, taking it toward New Carrollton a total of two stops (about 7 minutes) to Ballston–MU Station. Regular fare for train is $2.65 ($1.85 off-peak, $2.85 peak) with Farecard.
  • Option 2 (map)
    • From the terminal, catch the Metrobus express 5A route eastbound toward L'Enfant Plaza Station, departing every 30-40 minutes weekdays. Cash fare for express bus is $6.00.
    • Disembark at the Rosslyn Station stop on N Moore St past 19th St N.
    • Continue walking south on N Moore St a short distance beyond the bus stop and enter the Rosslyn Metro Station on your right.
    • Take the Orange Line toward Vienna a total of four stops (about 8 minutes) to Ballston–MU Station. Regular fare for train is $2.20 ($1.85 off-peak, $2.40 peak) with Farecard.

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Ballston–MU Station (map)

  • From the terminal, proceed to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metro Station and take the Blue Line toward Largo Town Center a total of five stops (about 10 minutes) to Rosslyn Station.
  • At Rosslyn Station, transfer to the Orange Line, taking it toward Vienna a total of four stops (about 8 minutes) to Ballston–MU Station. Total regular fare for both trains is $2.95 ($1.85 off-peak, $3.15 peak) with Farecard.

Walking directions from Ballston–MU Station to Westin Arlington Gateway (map)

  • Exit Ballston–MU Station through the N Fairfax Dr exit at N Stuart St, turn left and walk west along N Fairfax Dr three blocks (about 0.2 miles) to N Vermont St.
  • Turn left onto N Vermont St and continue almost one full block. Where the street bends to the right, the Westin Arlington Gateway hotel will be on your left.

Travel Reimbursement

Airfare and hotel expenses will be reimbursed for non-government attendees up to pre-determined allowances. Specific details about the reimbursement procedure will be provided in the participation acknowledgement e-mail.

A small maximum allowance is available to cover economy airfare or ground transportation to the workshop. Additionally, the hotel room can be reimbursed for up to two nights on May 30 and May 31 at the workshop rate. Meals will be provided on May 31 and June 1. All incidental and additional costs beyond the travel allowances, including meals during travel, taxi fare, Metro ticket, parking, in-room movies, room service and in-room mini-bar, etc., are the responsibility of the participant and will not qualify for reimbursement.
